Hershey Area Art Association Meeting February 12, 2019 at 7PM Presenter - Michele Gargiulo
Michele the Painter, Art for Animal Rescue.
Michele has been involved with art in many different forms; screen printing, restaurant murals, faux finishes in homes and eventually specializing in animal art. Through her art, Michele has raised $27,000 in four years for animal rescue. She was accepted into the Creative York annual juried show, and was selected as an emerging artist at the 2017 annual Mr. Gretna Art Show. Attend our meeting to meet Michele and learn about her love for animal art.

**SAD NEWS We have lost a long time member of HAAA. Connie Davis, a former HAAA president, died on January 9. Connie was a wonderful porcelain artist, she was passionate about HAAA and our role of promoting art in the local community. She was involved in many HAAA shows and was our representative to the Hershey Partnership. She will be missed.
**BOARD OF DIRECTORS The nomination committee - Mary Lott, Jim Davis and Marie Gamon offered the following names for the 2019 Board of Directors: New members - Angela Lapioli and Jim Davis, and the re-election of Mary Lott, Nick Elsener, and Kathleen Grim. All were approved by a voice vote from the attending membership at the January membership meeting. The 2019 board members are:
Kathleen Grim, President; Lori Lute-Beahm Acting Vice President, Wendy Keller, Secretary; Mary Lott, Treasurer; board members are Nick Elsener, Marie Gamon, Suze Moll, David Pringle, Kathy Smeltzer, Jim Davis. Congratulations to the new and re-elected board members, and thank you to the nomination committee. A special thank you to the board members who have completed their term - Marcia Leister, Deb Reitbauer and Susan Gephart.
NOTE - Because of her acceptance of new employment, Angela Lapioli has resigned from the HAAA Board of Directors. The Board has not made a decision regarding her replacement.
**ANOTHER VOTE At the February 12th meeting you will be asked to vote on the new bylaws. The board has been working on updating the bylaws for over 6 months! They have been thoroughly reviewed by our board members, and approved by the PA Association of Non-Profit Organizations. All that’s left is the approval from our membership. If you’re interested in reading the new version, it can be found at hersheyart.org under the NEWS menu.
**REMINDER The annual dues increased to $25 and the sales commission rate increased to 20% as of January 1, 2019. Read the details at hesheyart.org Also, you can review the 2018 financial statement on the website under Info >Member Resources > Documents > Financial Disclosures.

**EVENTS New opportunities for showing and selling your work are available. A new venue at the Back State Cafe in the Allen Theatre and the Annual Spring Member Show at the Hershey Library. This year’s theme is Sunday/Sun Day/ Sundae. Registration is now available online at hersheyart.org
**SOUP COMPETITION Calling all Artful Cooks for the May meeting! Bring your best soup!
We will have a tasing of all Artful Soups to determine which soup will represent HAAA at the annual Hershey Partnership Soup Cook-off in October. Bring a pot of your tastiest Artful Soup. The winner’s recipe will be duplicated by several cooking teams and HAAA will reimburse all ingredients necessary for the soup makers. This is a well attended annual community event sponsored by the Hershey Partnership in support of the Hershey Volunteer Fire Company.
**VOLUNTEER We continue our search for volunteers to assist us to carry out the mission of HAAA. Please consider one of the following openings:
- Program Committee - Locate speakers for general meetings
- Public Relations Committee - Handle advertising for classes and events - Reporter At Large (willing to attend shows and events and take photos) - Assist with planning for HAAA 25th anniversary celebration
