Saturday Plenair – Sept 6, 2025 at pronio’s farm- two sessions available
To the Public:
At the end of 2016 Ronnie Pronio placed a conservation easement on approximately 27 acres of the 145-acre Pronio Family Farm, protecting it from future subdivision and development. Thus, with Manada Conservancy’s help the Pronio Farm is now a preserved farm. The farm consists of open land, includes a tributary to the Manada Creek, and also a scenic portion of the Horse-Shoe Trail, which is open to the public except during hunting season. It is a beautiful, rolling landscape with a ravine and wooded area. The farm will be open to the public on Sept 6th from 10 am to 4 pm (Rain date Sept 13)
To HAAA members:
This Plenair event is open to all HAAA members. You can come for the whole day and paint or do a split day: Morning from 10 to 1 pm, or Afternoon: 1 to 4 pm. We will have a HAAA tent set up promoting our 30th anniversary to the public.
For HAAA members:
Chairs: Mary Lott
All HAAA members are eligible to come.
When you register, please indicate if you are painting in the morning, afternoon, or both. You can email me at: haaa.president@gmail to register.
DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION is Wednesday Sept 3rd, 2025.
The address of the farm is: 401 Douglas Road, Hummelstown, PA. (The farm is off Route 39 and Devonshire Heights Road. After making a right on Devonshire Heights, you stay straight and up the incline onto Douglas Road. Wind along the road until you see a red stable on the right and close to the road.)
Parking will be clearly marked and will be on the grass between the barn and the road. Additional parking will be across the road and on the grass along the field. We will have volunteers helping with this.
You will have a wide range of areas that you can paint. This is a private farm, so just be respectful of the place.
Plenair General Guidelines for Artists:
Dress for the site. Experienced outdoor artists wear breathable clothes--long-sleeve shirts and long pants to protect against ticks. A brimmed hat will keep the sun out of your eyes.
Bring snacks and drinking water.
Bring a plastic bag for trash and rags/paper towels for clean up. We must leave the area the way we found it.
For oil/pastel painters, you may want to bring a cardboard box lid to keep wet paint off your car's interior.
First-time Plein Air painters may want to bring items they already have in lieu of purchasing expensive equipment. Come with a chair and small table (a foldable bench works) - items that are easy to carry. You'll see a variety of setups used by artists that will make you a more informed buyer when the time comes to invest in equipment.
Bug spray and sunscreen come in handy.
Don't forget all of your painting or drawing supplies--paper, canvas, medium, paints, brushes, etc. Make a list so you don't get to the painting location and realize you're missing something important.
There will be portajohns available and remember to hydrate liberally after the paint session.
