Prez Sez April 2018

The reception for our Members Show on March 18th was a wonderful time of fellowship, and gathering to see the art created by our members to portray "Local Inspiration". Thank you so much

to Chris Slates, Sherry Weiser, Marie Gamon, and Maria Gronlund for organizing this. The creations of Maria Gronlund and Mary Lott received recognition for Best of Show and People's Choice. The art work will hang in the Hershey Library through May 19th.

While stopping by to see the Members Show, take a few minutes to peruse the Artists and Illustrators Magazine. This is a new publication, out of England, that our Association has donated to the Library.

Upcoming shows to participate in: Country Meadows in May; Old Annville Day in June.

Our guest speaker this month will be Karen Frattali. Lately her watercolor paint style has changed. Karen states, "It all started when I read a book on transparency and luminosity". Come and share her insight on "Watercolor My Way". The meeting will start at 7 PM, April 10th at the Historical Society, Hershey.

We are pleased to offer a watercolor workshop lead by Glenn Blue, a popular instructor in the York area, April 18 - 20. Glenn will not attempt to have you complete a full painting during class. Instead, he will demonstrate and guide you in achieving a sky, fog, trees, wet streets, light, snow, figures and atmosphere.  The registration and supply list can be found on our website.

The last four week session for Paint Together, until next fall, will begin Monday, April 9th. This is an informal time to paint with others, without formal instruction. The cost is $20 for the four weeks. More information on classes by Paulette Flemmens, John McNulty, Lynne Yancha, and Paul Gallo are also on the website.

Members who conduct art classes in their own studio/space, and would like to have us advertise for them, are considered Adjunct Instructors. For a small percentage of your intake, we will post your class on our website, Facebook, and list of periodicals. For more information, contact Kathy Smeltzer, our Class Chair, at

Does anyone buy art supplies - such a silly question!!! You can help our Association by ordering your supplies from Dick Blick or Utrect, and they will send us a rebate. The links are on our website, at the bottom of the main page. As the connection is timed, please compile your list of items prior to connecting to the link, then place your order. It is an easy way to assist in our financial intake, and we very much appreciate you support in this way.

Our membership renewal drive will end on May 1st. If you haven't done so already, please send in your renewal fee of $20 to HAAA, P.O. Box 654, Hershey, PA 17033 or see Lee Sandel at the April meeting.

Thank you so very much for your support and participation in Hershey Area Art Association.
